Notes and reflections from Spring Harvest 2021 : UNRIVALLED
Our kids grew up going to Spring Harvest, and the Big Start was a ‘must-do’ part of the event: a half-hour, multi-generational introduction to each day’s theme. Packed with drama, song, colour and creative prayer, and a recurring theme song for the whole event, we loved it!
The theme song for 2021 is rubbish. Really good rubbish (on the far side of The Pond they’d call it ‘trash’). It’s a foot stomping, bin bashing, tin can tapping song of praise. The focus is on worshipping the Lord of All in all of our life, since the overall theme for 2021 is worship.
It’s not a complicated concept (after all, it’s got to work for primary school aged children).
Jesus, there is no one like you,
(eg: miracles, the one who saves, eternal friend …you get the picture…)
With all my heart and soul I worship you,
With everything I have, I give you praise.
But then it anchors the ‘everything’ in ‘everyday’ imagery and settings.
If all I’ve got is pots and pans, I’ll praise you
If all I’ve got is a traffic jam, I’ll praise you
If all I’ve got is a bin and broom, I’ll praise you
If all I’ve got is my front room, I’ll praise you
…and that’s the power of the song. It’s not all airy-fairy, disconnected stuff. It’s a full-blooded resolve to take our mundane, ordinary, everyday situations and turn them into an opportunity to praise the Lord Jesus.
And that’s why I think this rubbish song is really good!
